Visiting The Garden
Free entry, parking and facilities
There is plentiful on-street parking, and limited on-site parking
- although access is narrow and we sometimes reverse customers cars
for them if required! We always offer help with carrying goods to
your car.
You can buy delicious food and hot drinks from the traditional
bakery opposite us, or other items from the excellent deli next
door. We stock cold drinks ourselves.
There is no charge for visiting the garden and visitors are free
to use our on-site toilet facilities. Disabled visitors are welcome
but should note that the gravel paths can be heavy going for wheelchairs.
Summer Planting Advice
Container plants, turf, weeds and spraying
Container grown plants can still be planted, provided they are
thoroughly watered until established. Turf too, can still be laid
if watered copiously.
Weeds! These are growing before our eyes. Hoeing on a sunny day
is a quick way to weed a fairly open area such as a vegetable garden.
In flower borders at this time of year, hand weeding is the most
practical option. A 'ready to use' spray of glyphosate weedkiller
is invaluable to take round in your trug for spraying bindweed and
ground elder foliage amongst other plants.
Keep on top of spraying for pests and diseases such as aphids and
mildew - pesticides these days are much more environmentally friendly,
but need to be used regularly to be effective. Slug pellets used
sparingly but regularly will save you from finding slugs in your
salad and holes in your hostas!
"Questions & Answers"
Answers to the questions we're often asked
Where can we buy the more unusual plants growing in the borders?
We propagate many of the plants and they are for sale in the retail
beds. We offer a plant finding service for anything we can't provide
ourselves.
Do you offer a garden design service?
We don't draw detailed garden plans, and after 2 slipped discs,
Roger tries to avoid planting jobs! However, time permitting, we
are happy to come out and discuss and suggest ideas for customers
gardens and will deliver and position plants for planting. We can
also recommend a few local qualified designers
and landscapers.
What if a plant I have bought from you, dies?
Under normal weather conditions, if a perennial plant, tree or shrub
has died within a year of purchase, despite being given adequate
care (and water!), we will replace it.
